Rock Hopper Penguins

Rockhopper penguins are one of the most charismatic birds of the Falkland Islands, with their bright yellow crests, red eyes and determined, almost comical way of hopping across the rocks. They breed in noisy colonies along the rugged coastline, returning from the sea to raise their chicks among cliffs, tussock grass and wave-washed shores. Though full of energy and character, they are also vulnerable to changing ocean conditions, disease and human impacts, making their presence in the Falklands both a joy to witness and a reminder of how precious these wild island habitats are.
