Puffins are one of Iceland’s most beloved and iconic seabirds, easily recognized by their colorful beaks and comical waddles. Every summer, millions return to Iceland’s coastal cliffs to breed, making it one of the best places in the world to see them. Puffins are expert divers, using their wings to “fly” underwater in search of small fish like sand eels. Despite their charm, puffins face serious threats from climate change and overfishing, which affect their food supply. In some areas, populations are in decline. Conservation efforts aim to protect their nesting sites and marine habitats to ensure their continued survival.
